After creating May’s Bloom, and selling the prototype, I was approached by a client that wanted a similar piece. I immediately jumped at the chance, because the previous painting was so much fun to do! This client asked if I would use colors specific to her décor, and sent me paint chips to use as color reference. We chatted about sizing, and decided on a 20” round. After a few composition and color studies were approved, I picked up my brush! This one felt relatively easy to begin, since I had done such a similar painting before, but I found myself leaning towards a cooler, darker color palette than the client preferred. Making corrections, layering oils, and re-defining petals along the way, we arrived at the finished piece, and were both happy with the final product.
I would absolutely love to do more of these floral rounds. If you’re interested, please fill out the form on the purchase page!

In the summer of 2018, local artists were invited to submit painted prototypes of manhole covers for Citizen's Energy's Dig Indy Project. The prototypes were displayed for a month at The Harrison Center, and fifteen entries were selected to become actual manhole covers! For my entry, I decided to create a giant peony(Indiana’s state flower) gently unfurling before the viewer. Hinting, perhaps not-so-subtly, at feminine iconography, this piece points to women of substance in Indianapolis. The title, May’s Bloom, is for May Wright Sewall, who helped to establish the Indianapolis Women’s Club, among many other civic reforms and accomplishments. The month of May is also the peak blooming season for peonies in Indiana, tossing another significance to the name of this piece. While aware of its own cheekiness, this magnificent flower also stands as an invitation for Indianapolis women to continue on the path so may others have walked before us. Located on the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, just below the IAC's Arts Garden, on the northwest corner of Washington and Illinois streets, I encourage you to go stand before May’s Bloom. This beauty was so sweet to create. Not only was it for a dear friend, but I was IN her wedding, so I was there with the actual bouquet on the actual day she was committing her life to her husband! The week leading up to it was full of giggles and joy, all of us reminiscing about college days and hyping up the days to come. Jasiri and Stephen just made sense to us all, and we were so so excited for them to be bound together forever! They both have bountiful families, and the energy they all brought to the day was magical and chaotic and beautiful. I was honored to recreate the beautiful bundle of blooms she held onto all day, and now she can hang it in her new home! A close friend came to me with an unusual size of a frame, and a request for me to fill it with flowers. This is possibly my favorite kind of request. She wasn’t picky about which flowers I drew, but definitely wanted a bit of color in there. With free rein, I decided to use the flowers in her front yard as reference, accented with some of my favorite bits of greenery and filler flower. The delight I saw in the her face as I delivered the final product was so rewarding & sweet! Just one of the many reasons I do what I do. Now hanging in her foyer, this floral piece is one of my favorites I’ve made! Thoughtfully requested by the friend of two Carolina lovebirds, this piece was gifted to a couple who got engaged in the mountains of Boone, NC. Painted on a (chock-full) bottle of Whistle Pig Whiskey, the front of the bottled depicts a covered bridge located on the Boone Greenway, where the couple hiked the day of their engagement! On the back is the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains as the sun peeks out from behind the mountaintops. A string of wildflowers finishes off this tender memento of a love story. Painting on glass was not something I had tried before this commission. It took a bit of research about materials, and a little trial and error on my part. I’m so thankful to the client for trusting me with this project, and giving me lots of creative control of the design process! It was a venture into an uncharted medium, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
